President, Licensed Site Professionals Association (LSPA), 2008

Mr. Shapiro served as President of the LSP Association, representing Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs) in Massachusetts and many other environmental professionals, and was a practicing Licensed Site Professional in Massachusetts for thirty years. During that time, he played a leadership role in working with MassDEP, regulators and business leaders in the continuing evolution of an LSP’s role in MA.

Asst. Chair, Needham Conservation Commission, 2004-10

In his continued professional community support activities, Mr. Shapiro served as Assistant Chair of the Needham Conservation Commission. In 2009, he and Avidar Environmental provided professional services in a pro-bono arrangement for the Town of Needham, providing third-part LSP oversight for a property that was one of several former Nike Missile sites in New England, for which he monitored site assessment, remediation, and site closure.

Patent Award for Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, 1980

Mr. Shapiro has brought novel and effective technical and regulatory solutions to the industry of Environmental Management and Compliance for commercial properties and buildings, for clients throughout the Northeastern sector of the United States, focused in Massachusetts and Maryland. Early in his career, as an R&D Senior Scientist, he was recognized and awarded a patent for two inventions for advancement of technology in Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry.
